EDMAT 31 (Part 2)

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

7 days' post gona b long. I'll just cut it short since I bet u all has already read the tentatives.

Food:
Food provided are great throughout the 7 days. Mayb just one day, which I think they faced some problem with it.

Games:
All their games are very creative and nice. There's one with treasure-hunt like, The Da Vinci Code and all the other station games.

Talks and Workshops:
Most of the talks are very good and motivating. Just a few which are quite boring and made me feel really slpy.

Outdoor Challenge:
Kayaking and Flying Fox! in UM! It's great gteat great!! Me n Joo Ling went on the same kayak. It was fun..lazy-ing around the lake. Despite the incident where Eugene fell into the lake. I still duno whether is he avoiding from banging into our kayak that time. Srryy! He managed to get back in by himself though, with a lil help from his NUS mate, Ignatius.
Flying Foz is cool also!! That evil Edison on the other side of the rope to make sure that everyone "dip" into the lake when we were flying across? haha

Debate:
Everyone is given a chance to debate on stage in the camp. It's divided into two sessions. With different topics, ranging from nuclear, genetically modified food, genes of humans, space till d boring one, engineering skills in agricultural and industrial. I'm on for the last one. Consider me crapping up there as the 1st speaker. ha..

Public Speaking:
It's conducted by a guy from IEM. Sry, I can't remember his name again. volunteers up on stage to do the open table topics (impromptu styled) and he will judged them. Sry, I don't think I'm good enough for that yet. I'll leave it to the experts for that.

Tour:
One day trip in KL and Sel. To Spansion Sdn Bhd, Royal Selangor till Sunway Pyramid. Spansion is an electrical and electronic related company. So, ermm ermmmmmm.
Royal Selangor's good. Non-stop of snapping photos? Pewter is really expensive!
Finally, Pyramid! I went on with a group of UM Electrical 1st years. Walked around n have our dinner in KFC. =P Of course, we won't miss out the photos-taking!

Awareness (Outdoor session):
We are brought to the Tirantana Old Folks and Orphanage house in Desa Petaling. Some of the groups went to Taman Megah. We talked to them, entertained them....

Gala Dinner:
Forget about the mask- making. It's a disaster.haha. Again, photo shooting non stop! Group performances also. My group went on with modified Cinderalla Sketch/ Drama. Sad to say that Gary from our group had to leave early before we managed to get all these done. He left quite a lot of stuff for me to do on d sketch. =(
Oh, I forget to mention that the dinner is held in Dynasty Hotel. The food served is delicious! But I didn't manage to finish my deserts also, n the waiter took it away when I'm not there on my seat. Most of our cameras were almost out of battery d by the end of the dinner. haha.

Lots of leng lui n leng chai to see.

At last, I meet lots of ppl, from everywhere..from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. It's really my pleasure meeting u guys.. Hope that we can keep in touch!

D UM 1st years from Electrical Engineering..

My group..with the ship that v built.

My senior n I who went for this camp..

Royal Selangor Giant Cup!

Pyramid Outing!

Participants leng lui... =P

OC leng lui besides me n joo ling..

Participants leng chai..sry I didn't manage to get d OC's..

As for yesterday's guess, here is d answer..

It's mail box..for all d participants to write to anyone they want! =D

NACES 2008

Friday, November 14, 2008

Event: National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES)
CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHEMICAL ENGINEERS IN A
CHANGING GLOBAL ECONOMY
Date: 1/08/2008 till 3/08/2008
Venue: Faculty of Engineering, UPM

Dis is suppose to be up..very very very long ago.
Forgive me that I don't have much time to blog about this.

First, let me introduce to u wht is NACES...
It's jus something like a conference, tht gathers all the chemical engineering students from public uni and some private colleges.
In these 3 days, there were ice-breaking games, d usual...some talks n forums....some activities of course (eg. station games), technical powerpoint presentation and essay competition.
D essay competition's deadline ended b4 NACES starts. So, it will only hold the prize giving ceremony..

A few of us joined the technical powerpoint presentation, n it's very very stressful..
Appreciate the chance very much from all d seniors.

Jus a brief bout wht v did during the 3 days...
The opening ceremony was fab! then slideshow for the opening is cool~
Of course...all my seniors are fantastic!

This post is actually dedicated to all my seniors for their help during NACES..
Typed this post way before...duno when d. sryyy...

"I have no idea how to thank all of u..
The seniors are really really really really supportive and helpful!
All d last minute work, last minute tips....very much appreciated..
I don't know bout the others, but I really do appreciate it lots n will never ever forget!

Let's see a bit of who my seniors are =P...

Ying Hong:
A walking chemical engineering handbook..any terms u named, he'll know bout it.
Thanks for being there for us anytime v msged or called, even though he himself is so so busy..
A big thanks for being thr during our presentation even though u r having fever that time..it meant a lot to us~
I still remembered hw tired and "blurred" or should i use, exhausted u look in the presentation hall that time..haha
Thanks for giving me the chance to learn from u during NACES!
And also thanks for the money, Mr. treasurer! =P
How can i ever repay u? >.<

Jason:
Another walking chem engineering handbook.. =P
This senior here is famous for his superb brain but then he is also superb on editing powerpoint slides!
Imagine he "madeover" our slides in jus 2 days!!!
Our slides are now presentable n attractive!
He edited all the slides according to all our preferences, planned an interesting intro for willie and the news articles which supported our title very very much..
It's really such a waste tht u couldnt see our presentation since u were on duty in another presentation hall =(

Hwei Lin:
Our very leng lui super senior.. =P
Also our very creative senior..
Came out with our slides' templates in jus one night!
But then it can only take her one night coz she is also very busy n her schedule is fully packed.

Mee Khuan:
Another leng lui super senior =D
She helped us lots on figuring the economic analysis for our presentation..
Estimated cost for the plantation, the harvesting period, the period of time required to gain back all the investment..blah blah blah
V dont know any of all these..she taught us!

Teik Chow:
He was too busy to notice us i guess. haha...but he still make it to our presentation =)
And thanks to all d really last minute advices (really last minute, mayb like 30 minutes or less b4 our presentation, when v were already in the hall?)
and to calm us down? additional points added for ur "super sexy" voice? haha..
FYI, he shouted till he got serious sore throat jus after the first day of NACES..
I have a feeling u were much more nervous than us, or me at least =P

Alvin:
Our dearest director of NACES 2008.
Firstly, a big congratz to him for NACES being so successful~
I dont have to mention i guess. As usual, he wont even have time to rest himself.
But thanks a lot, alvin. He promised us to make it to our presentation n he did... =)
I hope v didnt waste ur time for bringing u in to see our presentation.
Not to forget all the advices on the night before the presentation day.
I sincerely apologize for partially ignored one of the most important advices u gave us.
If not, v might have won the trophy for UPM *sobs*
We will never ever repeat that mistake again.

Hong Tat:
The senior that don't really comment much. He jus listened?
Tht's wht he did after our presentation. His unique way of encouraging us mayb?

Jacklyn:
I gav u a lot of troubles? hehe..
The academic and competition unit director. was under her unit..
Was under her in ChESS also..working with her too much till i m giving her too many troubles
She couldnt help us much on the presentation since she is supposed to be fair being the unit director who is in-charge of it.
Duno hw to thank u o *speechless d*

Dr Chuah n Dr Thomas:
Thanks to dr fr both the info n advices!!
n being so supportive =)

i was like "can i tag along tmrw?"
i pulled along hsim, my coursemate to this crazy promo launch.
i don't know wht came to me till i m crazy enough to stay overnight in Time Square jus for this camera.

v waited 22 hours for it. that includes,
- run till 5th floor to "ta pao" mcd as our lunch,
- wandering around from time square to lowyat, sg wang wif one of my senior jus to get the atm machine to cash out money.
- chit chatting nonsense
- watched stephen chow's funny movie on our "neighbour's laptop" for ermm, jus half n hour i suppose
- sitting thr learning hw to do my heat exhanger project from my senior
- disturbing another senior not to let him study (yea, he actually brought along a book as thick as 2 n 1/2 inch to study =.=")
- observing all the other crazy ppl tht came to line up, n most of them i assumed are sony freaks.coz i saw sony vaio, sony psp n sony t-album.
for those who own a t-album, y r u ppl still lining up for skinny t????

all these happen during the unofficial queue..jus as the photo below:

lots of chaos actually happen during tht period of time. the cut-queue stuff...
according to the schedule, the official queue suppose to b at only 6am..
but i guess the sony staff "kasihan" us, coz they let us into the official queue at ard 12am..

during the rearrangement, another cut queue incident happened again. aihz.
till d staff and rela came. =.=
after all the hassle, the queue became like this:

it is much more narrow compare to the space v had jus now =(
n v stayed or sit thr till the next morning...
in between, v climbed out to the "cage" to go to the washroom n slp in whtever style tht v can think of.
my legs get numb easily ere *too narrow!*

Yakult now~!

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Next...

Date: 25th of July 2008
Time: 8.00am to 12.00pm
Numbers of participants: 67 students and 2 lecturers from our department (taking up 2 buses)
Venue: Yakult (M) Sdn Bhd

It's open to all 2nd and 3rd year students from Chemical Engineering, UPM. Yea, this trip is under me... =D

Honestly, the proposal for the approval of this trip has been sent to the Bahagian Hal Ehwal Pelajar (BHEP) since last sem or u can say, last year. N it's only been approved on the 1st week of this sem. The BHEP do take some time to approve something huh?

There were lots to settle after the approval...
The souvenir application, the confirmation with the transport, lecturers, etc...
Anyway, everything is settled by the time v r going for the trip, of course.

The person in charge of the trip from the Yakult is Ms Chew. She is a very friendly and nice lady.
So, I strongly recommend, if any of u is planning any educational trip to anywhere, go for YAKULT!!

Yakult provides a very comfortable visitor spots for everyone since they welcome visitors to their factories.

"As per our teleconversation, Yakult is equiped with a visitor corridor that enable all visitor to view the whole production process through glass window. And this design is taking consideration on the prevention of contamination and safety of all visitors. Therefore, visitors can wear any attire during the factory visit and it shouldn't be any problem for pregnant lady to come by too."

An explaination provided by Ms Chew when I requested to know more bout how the visit is conducted beforehand.

Most of us r impressed by hw well the whole visit is prepared. A big thanks to Ms Chew!
Not to forget the slides n video presentation on Yakult later on in the hall...
All of us got to try a bottle of Yakult for free..n get to buy 1 row of Yakult (5 bottles) at a discounted rate, which is RM 3.70.. (ermm, outside selling at around RM 3.95 i guess)

I bought 3 rows, 2 rows for both the bus drivers n another row for me n my roommates..

It was tiring for me during this trip, compared to all the others of course.
But it was fun and it's worth to go so far for this trip.. =)
